Craig handed me this tool said its D2, its not holding an edge and needs to be hardened. D2 asks for a hardening temp of 1815/1875f so I aimed for 1850 which looks like the orange going to yellow heat. It also is an air hardening steel. Put a piece of solid bar in to help retain the tubing that was used for the hardy stem. I preheated my forge, turned it off and put the tool in to start the heat. Then intermittently turned it on and did my best to do a uniform hear on this. Got it to temp and held it for 20 min. Placed it it the vise and let it cool. I'll do this three times then temper the working edge. #blacksmith #dirtysmith #heattreating
